Now that you are here reading this article, I assume that you are ready to make money by blogging. Before you start making your first blog, allow me introduce to you the two types of blog and it's ways to earn money from your blog, either make a typical (just random) blog and get insane views or focus on a (niche blog) particular topic you are expert at and get a loyal viewers, followers and readers. I will explain to you briefly what's the pros and cons of each type of blog.
Two types of blog
General Blog - blogs about almost anything the author wants to share. From what the author feels during that day, his/her comments regarding a trending issue, his/her weird experiences on some things that happened in his/her life (the hell we care at all. lol) and up to his/her most favorite video on YouTube. In short, the blog contains random things, which will have a random viewers at any random time. You will need hundreds of thousand views or even million views for you to earn money on a general blog. The question is, can you make hundreds of thousands of views per day? or even per week? If not, then you will most likely fail in generating revenue.
Pros: No particular topic, no limitations.
Cons: Needs a hundreds of thousands of viewers, no targeted ads, only rely on affiliate links.

Niche blog - A blog with a particular topic. The author must be expert on a particular topic. like for example: Travel blogs - a blog that talks only about his/her travel experiences from the places she/he visited. With that, he/she can actually build audiences who has the passion for traveling or going to different places. You can build viewers who wants to know more about the topic you are inclined with.

Pros: No need for a large scope of viewers, can have targeted audience, can create loyal readers, can have targeted ads.
Cons: narrow scope of audience, limited topics and limited viewers.
